Do you really need to get your boiler serviced every year?

Have quite a modern combo boiler. Maybe 6-7 years old. Do I really need to pay £80 each year for chap to come round and service it? I think all he does is plugs his little machine in then prints out a little test receipt showing it’s passed or failed. I’m thinking it must be safe as have smoke and carbon monoxide alarm nearby. Also as it’s quite modern so surely it just self regulates doesn’t it? Bit like a modern car engine getting the right fuel/air ratios etc. Also think if there was a problem it would probably stop working and just show a fault code. Think I might go to bi-annually. What does everyone else do?

What constitutes as "Annual Boiler Service"?

Would a 20 minute "health check" be the same as "Annual Boiler Service"?
How long does an Annual Boiler Service usually take?
What is usually "serviced"?
Reason: I have a contract with a company called "Your Repair", that I found through Money Saving Expert site. A Gas Engineer messaged me to arrange a 20 minute "health check", as part of the service agreement. I thought it would be for the above service. They dodged my question regarding the Service and the time it takes.

Waiting for a plumber from 'Your Repair' yesterday. Didn't show up. Rang them this morning and after much discussion, liaising between call centre and the plumber, it turns out the fella knocked on the door of number 23, instead of 32, where lives an old lady who until yesterday had a broken toilet.

They kindly agreed it was their error, so have fixed the nice lady's toilet free. 😂 What are the chances.
Edit: went round to see the lady to explain the funny coincidence, and confirmed for her they won't charge her. She thought her son had booked it!
She gave me a mince pie to take away with me as I was masked up and didn't want to go in for her safety. Very wholesome experience all round, and made a new friend. ☺
The plumber confirmed he won't be paid for fixing her toilet, apparently admitting it was 'their mistake' actually means it was his mistake. He said he didn't mind, but I slipped him £50 on his way out.

Why do I imagine an elderly lady sitting at home, knock on door 'I'm here about your plumbing problem' oh yes the toilet, whilst thinking 'i don't remember phoning anyone, or did I... Her having an internal 'I'm losing my marbles' internal monologue whilst plumber doing the work. At least she got it done for free, and next time the plumber might check the name of the person who phoned...

Advice needed - Compensation dispute for broken appliance during outsourced home repair/maintenance

Hi there,
I rent a property in London and have done for nearly 3 years, no issues - landlord is largely good and I’ve always paid rent on time.
Landlord outsources maintenance/insurance/repairs to an insurance company named YourRepair. Basically any issues I might have (locks, stuck doors, pests, electrical faults, etc) they sort. Performance of YourRepair has been really bad mostly.
Anyway, landlord recently got an independent contractor to do some work in my utility room - once the work completed, I discovered the electrical socket for my dishwasher (owned and bought by me) wasn’t working.
Phoned landlord and we both agreed whilst it was probably his contractor (a family friend), we’ll just get YourRepair to do it.
Fast forward and YourRepair out source the job to a small electrical guy. I pull the dishwasher out slightly so he can see the socket and leave it there, I already notice it’s a bit tight so decide to let the engineer figure out best way forward. Dishwasher is still 100% fine.
Electrical guy fixes the socket but to get behind the dishwasher he has had to pull it out and whilst doing this, damaged the dishwasher breaking off the panel where the hose pipes go into. I didn't see him do this as I was upstairs and my partner was in another room.
I only find this out an hour after he left when I go to run the dishwasher and water spills everywhere.
Thankfully the water was cleaned up and no damage but here’s where my legal advice is needed:
I call the outsourced company and explain what happened, they dispute that the dishwasher was already pulled out and the damage wasn’t done by him. Thankfully I have before and after photos because of bad experiences with this company- the photos clearly show the referenced panel fine in the before picture, and torn off in the after. They then come back to me after talking to the engineer and for a second do admit on the phone he didn’t have any access to the socket, I pull them up on this and they backtrack saying it was a “mistake in their language”. They confirm the call is recorded when I ask them.
After this I (and Landlord) go back to YourRepair the original insurer and provide all above evidence. YourRepair chase the outsourced company but ultimately come to the conclusion that it’s my word against the engineers and because “there were no witnesses” there isn’t anything they can do.They also recommend I raise a complaint directly with the outsourced company, I do this on top of a SAR under GDPR to request a copy of the call recording. This was sent on 1st August and I have yet to receive acknowledgment of either my complaint or my SAR request.
Just looking for any advice here or if I’m stuck with “my word against theirs”?
If they do not acknowledge responsibility is my landlord obligated to pay?
Lastly, am I entitled under GDPR to request the call recordings they made to their engineer regarding my job (and complaint about the broken dishwasher)?
On then basis they slipped up on the phone to me, I'm hoping they might have spoken a lot more candidly with their engineer and maybe some more substantial proof is available.
At this point I’m hoping they just don’t respond to the SAR so I can make a claim against them and pay for a new dishwasher!
